Caremark Basingstoke and Deane recently took the chance to introduce caring as a potential career path to children at the Hurst School in Basingstoke.

Care Manager Kirsty Nash, Care Co-ordinator Cheryl and FCS Mollie took centre stage (along with Caremark bear Buddy), giving children a chance to find out about all the wonderful things that carers do as she hosted a stall at the event. No doubt helped by a huge tub of sweets she was kept busy as we gave out literature and leaflets about how rewarding a career in Care can be and the difference they could make to people’s lives.

Speaking after the event Kirsty, “We find that Care is sometimes dismissed as a low skill, low expectation career by some. Events like this give us the chance to talk about all the positive things that working in care can offer, like job satisfaction, flexibility, and a genuine career path with the chance to grow and develop as well an genuinely impact on life of people who need help.”

Pupils had the opportunity to ask questions and connect with employers from a wide range of sectors, including construction, health, finance, creative industries, and engineering.

Helen Aymes, the careers leader at the school said the whole events was a huge success “We had lots of positive responses from the students and how it has given them good ideas for what they would like to do.”

It was a wonderful event and we look forward to going again next year!
