Good Care Month – July 2024

Good Care Month celebrates the positive impact caring for others has on both individuals and the wider community.
At Caremark NI, our dedicated team of care assistants provides care 365 days a year, improving lives and allowing people to continue to live in their own homes for as long as possible. Providing good care requires a multi-faceted approach when delivering support to our individual service users, ensuring that every individual is treated with dignity and respect for their autonomy.
Practical Support
The practical support Caremark Care Assistants provide is essential to ensuring the safety and dignity of our clients is maintained. Without this support, many elderly or disabled individuals would not be able to continue to live in their own homes safely. This may lead to people being relocated to permanent care facilities or attempting tasks without adequate support, potentially leading to self-neglect or safety concerns.
There is a wide variety of practical support available from Caremark NI, with the support provided to each service user being outlined in their Care Plan and based on the individual needs and desires of the person.
Here are some examples of the practical assistance we provide:
- Meal preparation
- Light domestic tasks
- Personal care
- Medication management
- Shopping calls
Emotional Support
Enabling people to experience overall wellbeing often requires more than support with practical tasks alone. According to an NHS survey, over 1 million older people in the UK report that they often go for a month or more without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member. This level of social isolation can lead to loneliness, which in turn may lead to people losing their sense of self-worth and may cause them to stop practicing adequate self-care, such as eating well or maintaining their appearance. Severe loneliness can lead to several mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety and depression; it may also increase an individual’s risk of developing dementia.
This is why, at Caremark NI, we believe that good care includes providing emotional and social support to our service users, often taking the form of companionship visits, or sits. These visits can last several hours, allowing service users the opportunity to access their local community, spend time enjoying hobbies or have a chat with someone over a cup of tea.

Caremark Care Assistants
Our wonderful care assistants are passionate about the care they deliver to our service users. Every new staff member receives full training and shadowing when they join the team, ensuring that they are fully equipped to provide excellent care. Our staff are committed to continual development, often attending additional training courses, learning new skills and enhancing the care we deliver.
Care is always delivered with compassion and a smile, leaving clients feeling valued and cared for while maintaining a sense of humour.
