Last month we talked about Joy, one of our lovely care assistants. We talked about Joy’s background and her start to each day working as a care assistant.

You can read this article here. We hope you find it interesting.

This article will now go through the rest of Joy’s day.

Lunchtime

Joy will revisit the clients she attended to in the morning and make them a drink, some lunch and ensure they take their medication. Joy says her clients often ask “please go in my fridge and give me some options for lunch”. This visit will take 30 minutes.

Dinner

Sometimes Joy changes the bed linen but always makes sure their home is clean. Between her and the client they decide what’s for dinner. Joy will see to this and then wash up before she leaves for the next client.

Bedtime

The final part of a care assistant’s day, Joy will make her final visit of the day to her clients where she will close the windows, draw the curtains, dress her clients in their night clothes, remove the pressure socks and encourage them to brush their teeth and assist them to bed.

Some clients need more time with Joy, depending on their needs. Furthermore, some clients will need more personal care and have to have creams applied and dressings changed. Sometimes Joy sees to their laundry. Not all of Joy’s clients are house bound; some like to get out and about and tell Joy all about their adventures when she visits. Some clients have family and friends visiting and some don’t.

Joy’s days are busy visiting her clients but Caremark ensures that she is not rushed and there are only small distances to travel between clients. Joy also likes to arrive early as she does not like to keep her clients waiting or be late and have to rush.

Finally, Joy loves working for Caremark Cheltenham; the people she works with are great and very supportive. If she has any issues, she knows she can talk them through without hesitation.  As Joy says “if I’m happy I can deliver better”.
