Read here to find out what happened at our first free chair-based exercise class

We held our first free chair-based exercise class on 17 September 2024 at St Philip and St James Church, Leckhampton.

Local residents attended our first class with physiotherapist Jo Folkes at the helm. These residents were from Mercian Court, Park Gate, and as far away as Warden Hill. Vera, Dorris, Jean and Joan are 90, 80, 84 and 94 years old respectively.
So quickly dubbed the “4 Musketeers”, our sprightly ladies needed no encouragement. They participated in a range of gentle exercises designed to build strength and promote wellbeing.
We had already met the lovely Joan at Morrisons on Friday 13th (unlucky for some but not us!) Joan arrived for the class on her mobility scooter. “It only took me 45 minutes to get to Pip and Jims. But I was going slowly as the pavements are rather uneven”.
After 30 minutes of gentle movement, we all enjoyed coffee, tea and CAKE!

Jean and Dorris, who live in the same block, confided that they hadn’t initially been keen to come as they didn’t know quite what to expect. However, both enjoyed the session so much they promised to spread the word amongst their friends and already had the dates in their diary for the next 2 sessions.
One of the ladies, Dorris, is German so Frances, our business development and events co-ordinator, started speaking German to her. Like Frances’ mother, Dorris had married an English man and was amazed how good Frances’ German was. Frances was asked if she wanted any German books as Dorris had plenty at home and wanted to get rid of some. Frances was grateful for the offer, saying ‘yes please”. Dorris said she would be bringing them to our next exercise class.
