A career in care

Being deaf certainly hasn’t prevented Sonia Craft from pursuing a career in care.

After five years working in residential care, Sonia is now experiencing homecare, having joined Caremark Doncaster in January 2024.

And she’s already proving popular with her customers and fellow members of staff.

“I have always enjoyed looking after people, so care was the logical choice for me,” says Sonia.

“I lip read so I have never allowed being deaf to hold me back and everyone has been lovely to me since I joined Caremark.

“I enjoy going into different people’s homes and chatting with them.”

When she’s not working, Sonia enjoys spending time with her husband and their two young sons.

“My sons are not deaf but will be going to a deaf school so they can learn sign language, although they can do some already!”
