Care for much of her life

In one form or another, TJ as she is known by everyone, has been involved in care for much of her life.

In her home country, TJ worked as a volunteer at a local church for ten years and this included taking people to hospital and giving out food, clothing and medication to the more vulnerable members of the community.

She also provided care to her father who had diabetes and suffered a stroke.

This experience has stood TJ in good stead since she moved to the UK in 2023, initially working in a care home and then in homecare with Caremark Doncaster since September 2024.

“Home care is much more person-centred than residential care and I definitely prefer it,” she says.

“You get to spend more time with your customers and this enables you to find out more about them and what they like.

“In a care home everyone generally has the same routine but it’s different in your own home and it’s up to you when you get up in the morning or go to bed at night, or when you want to eat – and that’s how it should be.

“Everyone is different which means every day is different and that’s one of the things I like the most about working for Caremark.

“It’s also a very flexible company and they understand that sometimes you have personal appointments or other things happening in your life and they adjust rotas to accommodate this.

“So, well as being person-centred to their customers, they are the same with their staff as well!”

Outside of work, TJ enjoys relaxing by cooking Nigerian food spending time with her family, who also lives here.
