Charity Football Match to Help Raise Awareness of Sepsis

Keep yourselves free for Sunday 10 August 2025. We are holding our second charity football match to help raise awareness of sepsis.
We have been providing domiciliary care in Thanet, Canterbury and Dover since 2012. We offer a full range of home care services, including personal care, medication support, and companionship, We have always been community engaged organisation. One of our most notable initiatives is our “Making Ellie Count” campaign, which is deeply personal to the organization and tied to raising awareness about sepsis.
The campaign is in memory of Ellie Lunn, the daughter of Kerry Hill, who is the Registered Manager, at Caremark Thanet and Canterbury. Ellie tragically died in 2015 at just 11 months old due to sepsis, a life-threatening condition where the body’s response to infection damages its own tissues and organs. Ellie had been misdiagnosed with viral tonsillitis and sent home from the hospital with treatments that masked her symptoms. The next morning, she died.
Our campaign aims to keep alive Ellie’s memory by educating others about sepsis, a condition that kills five people every hour in the UK according to the UK Sepsis Trust, yet remains poorly understood by many.
“Making Ellie Count” started as a way to channel grief into action. The first event, held on September 3, 2023, at the Pavilion in Broadstairs, was a free music show sponsored by Caremark Thanet in collaboration with Academy FM Thanet. It featured local performers and raised £1,000 for the Sepsis Trust.
The event aimed not just to fundraise but to highlight sepsis symptoms—like fever, rash, and lack of urination. A second “Making Ellie Count” music event took place on September 1, 2024, also at the Pavilion, with bands performing for free and the community rallying to spread awareness. Both events underscored the message: “Could it be sepsis?”—urging people to ask this critical question.
Last year we held our first Charity football match. Caremark Vs Man v Fat. This was an ambitious event that saw us raise over £3000. In total, our campaign has raised close on £6000. Man v Fat proved worthy winners in last years game. It was a closely contested game, and even a world class penalty from Kerry Hill could not prevent Man v Fat winning 6-4.
We estimate that during the day, over 500 people came to Ramsgate Football club to see the match and enjoy some of the other activities that were on show.
This year, on 10th August (2025), we are holding our second charity football match. Caremark are looking to take the trophy from last years victors. The game will be held at Ramsgate Football Club. As well as the match there will be plenty of family entertainment happening.
Put the date in your diary, and come along and help us raise money and raise awareness of sepsis.
