Today the team at Caremark Guildford and Woking want to talk about the signs of a heart attack. A heart attack can strike suddenly and without warning, so it’s vital we understand the signs.

So here’s what to look out for.

Number 1 is Chest Pain or Discomfort: The most common symptom of a heart attack is chest pain or discomfort that may feel like pressure, tightness, squeezing, or fullness. This sensation can vary in intensity and may last for a few minutes or come and go.

Number 2 is Pain or Discomfort in Other Areas: Pain or discomfort may also radiate to other parts of the upper body, including the arms (especially the left arm), back, neck, jaw, or stomach. It’s essential not to ignore any unusual discomfort in these areas, especially if it accompanies chest pain.

Next we have Shortness of Breath: Feeling short of breath, even with minimal exertion, can be a sign of a heart attack. Some individuals may experience difficulty breathing or gasping for air, particularly if the heart is unable to pump enough oxygen-rich blood to the body.

We also have Nausea or Dizziness: Nausea, vomiting, light headedness, or sudden dizziness without a clear cause can occur during a heart attack. These symptoms are particularly common in women and older adults and may be accompanied by other warning signs.

Number 5 is Cold Sweats: unexplained sweating, clammy skin, or a cold sweat that feels out of the ordinary, especially when combined with other symptoms, could indicate a heart attack. The body’s response to stress or shock can lead to sweating as the heart struggles to pump effectively.

We also have Fatigue: Unexplained fatigue, weakness, or extreme tiredness that persists despite rest can sometimes be a warning sign of an impending heart attack. This fatigue may occur suddenly or gradually and may be accompanied by other symptoms.

Lastly, we have Anxiety or Panic: Feelings of anxiety, panic, or a sense of impending doom may accompany a heart attack, particularly in women. These psychological symptoms can sometimes precede or occur alongside physical manifestations of a heart attack.
