How to spot the signs of a Stroke.
A stroke is a very serious condition where the blood supply to part of your brain is cut off.
Around 100,000 people in the U.K. suffer Strokes each year.
So what are the symptoms?
Remember the word F.A.S.T: F.A.S.T are the things to look for, and it stands for Face, Arms, Speech and Time, but what do they mean?
Firstly Face – when someone has a Stroke, their face may have dropped on 1 side. The person may not be able to smile, or their mouth or eye may have dropped.
Next are Arms – the person with suspected stroke may not be able to lift both arms and keep them there because of weakness or numbness.
Thirdly is Speech – slurred or garbled speech, maybe the person might not be able to talk at all. These are also key symptoms. Equally a stroke victim may also have problems understanding what you’re saying to them.
Finally, is Time – if you see any of these symptoms it’s time to dial 999 immediately. The faster you get them treatment, the better the outcome.
