Everyday tasks

As arthritis and other skeletal conditions affected Khaleem Syed’s mobility he began to find restricted use of his joints meant he was unable to carry out some everyday tasks.
A friend recommended he contact Caremark Leeds Bradford and now Khaleem has assistance from a carer who visits each day.
“They have been such a great help and it is re-assuring to know there is someone there for you,” said Khaleem.
“I also enjoy having a chat with them, it’s good to have some conversation with new people.”
Khaleem, 68, arrived in the UK from Pakistan as a “little nipper”. He studied catering at Bradford College and set up his own restaurant business – his speciality being Lamb Nihari and Chicken Karahi.
“The secret to being a good chef is to sing when you are cooking. If you are happy when you cook it will come through in your food,” he said.
“Also, don’t worry if you make a mistake, just keep trying, that’s how we learn.”
As well as having arthritis which restricts mobility, Khaleem also suffers from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which causes pain, numbness and tingling to hands and fingers. Home Care Support helps Khaleem to shower and get dressed each morning and apply cream to his feet and other joints.
He has applied to the council to fund further visits so home care support can also help with laundry and other housework.
“I have been using Caremark for a year and they have been excellent,” said Khaleem.
“My heart goes out to carers, God bless them.”
