Autism

Caremark Rotherham and Sheffield is very proud to support World Autism Acceptance Month, an event held each April to promote understanding, inclusion, and acceptance of individuals on the autism spectrum.

From 14th to 18th April, we showed our support by wearing different colours to work each day to help illuminate a cause very close to our hearts.

That is because we support people on autistic spectrum and we know, from our own experience, that this development condition affects people in different ways. That’s why we spent a lot of time getting to understand and know the individuals we are supporting and involving their family, friends and professionals to ensure we provide the support specific to them.

Thus includes asking questions like what environments do they feel comfortable in, how do they prefer to communication and what are their hobbies or interests. We then put a bespoke plan in place and our Autism Champions lead on the care, ensuring clear pathways and goals are agreed together and supported to achieve positive outcomes.

A key message of this month is that autistic individuals should not be expected to conform to societal norms but instead be embraced for who they are. Acceptance means creating environments where autistic people feel safe, respected, and valued—not only during April, but all year round.

By listening to autistic voices and advocating for accessibility, understanding, and equal opportunities, we take meaningful steps toward building a society that truly celebrates neurodiversity. World Autism Acceptance Month is not just a time for awareness—it’s a call to action for compassion, equity, and lasting change.

This year, help us change attitudes towards autism. Your support can help create a world that works for autistic people and their families.
