Adapting to a new country

Adapting to a new country, climate, culture, and language is difficult enough but when you also add going into stranger’s homes to provide professional care for them, that’s something many people would struggle with.

This is certainly not something which applies to Blessy, however.

Having come from her native India to work for Caremark Wakefield on overseas sponsorship eight months ago, Blessy took to caring immediately and the customers she visits each day are not strangers any longer, but people who value the support she provides.

Blessy worked in a residential care home in India and combined with looking after her own grandparents, it meant she already had good experience before she joined Caremark.

“I had never been to the UK, and it is very different to my country in so many ways, but I am an adaptable person so that really helped,” says Blessy.

“I shadowed a carer before I first went into a home by myself for the first time and I received wonderful training from Caremark, so that really helped.

“I have always enjoyed looking after old people and taking care of them, and it’s no different here.

“We have a great responsibility to our customers but when you receive positive feedback and leave them with a smile on their face, that’s when you know you have done your job well.

“In fact, it makes me want to do even better next time I see them!”

In her spare time, Blessy likes to socialise with the friends she has made since coming to Wakefield, listening to music, and cooking.

“I am a great chef,” she adds.
