The Benefits of Receiving Care and Support from Caremark – Case Study
Caremark has been supporting Mrs C for over 18 months. She is in her 70s and suffers from a number of severely debilitating health conditions. Caremark assists her to live as independently as possible by visiting her four times each week.
One of our Care Assistants contacted her Field Care Supervisor last weekend to express concerns about Mrs C’s wellbeing. Mrs C had told her carer that she had recently had a bad fall and subsequently had gone all day without either drinking or eating. She had tried and failed to get the necessary assistance. She was despairing, feeling that nobody would listen to her and that she had been ‘written off’ due to her age and health conditions. Mrs C lives alone and has recently lost her only sibling, something that her carer felt was affecting Mrs C’s physical as well as mental wellbeing. The carer recommended that, if possible, companionship calls should be added to Mrs C’s schedule.
On Monday, the next Care Assistant to visit remarked that Mrs C’s speech had deteriorated but that she had still been able to express that she felt on the scrap heap with nobody caring for her apart from her ‘wonderful Caremark carers’.
Later on Monday morning Mrs C gave her permission for the Field Care Supervisor to contact her GP. The FCS explained to the surgery Caremark’s deep concern for Mrs C and, in response, an appointment was made for Mrs C to visit the surgery on Tuesday morning. In her current condition this would have been impossible and it required another call from Caremark to the surgery to convey the urgency of the situation. Following this second phone call paramedics visited Mrs C’s home and the good news is that she has been admitted to hospital where she is now receiving the best possible care and attention.
This case study is an example of the sort of thing that happens on a daily basis. Care Assistants make visits to Customers whom they already know well. If the Care Assistants identify anything of concern they pass this on to the office team, confident that they will respond accordingly. Our Customers can rely on Caremark and our Care Assistants can rely upon being valued and listened to.
We all hope that Mrs C recovers sufficient strength to return home as soon as possible.
