Caremark is Dementia Friendly

Everyday we encounter people with dementia whether it is a friend, a client or a family member. Dementia is a condition that is increasingly common and at times we are not sure what is the best way to respond or treat dementia. Becoming a Dementia Friend encourages you to take understanding and turn it into action. Many years dementia was overlooked, but recently the focus has been shifted to ensure that people with dementia, live as full a life as possible and encourage communities to work together to help people to stay healthier for longer. At Caremark we support clients with dementia every day. Making sure that they have the assistance and support with day to day activities, going out in the community ensuring that they still get to experience what the community has to offer.
Our approach to dementia care focuses on treating the whole person, not just their symptoms. At Caremark Home Care in Worcester & Malvern Hills, we work closely with families to develop a personalized care plan that addresses not only medical needs, but also emotional and social well-being. Care Assistant gets trained on dementia to ensure that they have an detailed understanding with what Dementia is and how it affects a person. This training will help care assistants to support clients to the best of their ability and ensuring that each client has the support they need.
What is dementia?
Dementia is not a natural part of the ageing process, it is caused by a number of diseases that damage and affect the brain. Dementia is caused by various diseases, the most common causes of dementia is Alzheimer’s or a Stroke. Different types of dementia affect the brain in different ways. Sometimes changes can be so small that it can go unnoticed for a long period of time. Some of the changes that you might notice are things like memory loss, difficulty concentrating, changes in mood or behaviour, confusion about familiar dates and places. Dementia is associated with being older but you will be surprised that dementia can affect the youth as well.
